This
article discusses unemployment, and how it's been stuck at 7.9% since September. It also talks about how the US does create more jobs, but barely enough to keep up with the growing population and not enough to have a big impact on unemployment. It also talks about fiscal uncertainty holding back employers. What are your general thoughts on this article? What fiscal policies do you think should be carried out to actually put a dent in the unemployment?
I think another good point the article makes about the new jobs being created, is that investors are looking to spend more because they are encouraged by the new jobs. As a result the dow jones is as high as its been since 2007.
ReplyDeleteI fully agree with the fiscal uncertainty being a big problem. Without investment, we will not see the sort of job growth needed to bring that number down.
ReplyDeleteThe part about age and unemployment interested me. This led me to: Jobs may seem reluctant to hire elderly because of age, but those people may be more experienced. Or, they may be reluctant to hire younger because of lack of experience. In addition, I'm not surprised to see that businesses are reluctant in making decisions and making people come in for an unnecessary amount of interviews. In the end, though, forecasts from this article seem positive for 2013. I appreciated the quote at the end, it was very realistic and honest... "“How do you expect for me to find a job in two weeks if I haven’t been able to find one in a year and a half?”
ReplyDeleteI fully agree with investors needing to spend more. If they are confident enough in the market and the fiscal policies being implemented, then creating jobs should be no problem. But easier said than done.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree that investment is big push for the economy. Increasing in business confidence and the investors are confident about the market, they will invest more. That will create more jobs and boost the economy. However, fiscal uncertainty decreases the business confidence that leads to a long recession. It is important to important to implement a fiscal policy.
