The BLS Jobs Report Covering January 2013: Terrible Month, Great Report | Corrente

Data is whatever you want it to be.  We adjust and manipulate sample data to better represent the population we believe it was drawn from.   So the jobs report for January was a fix-up month for data manipulation.  An interesting blog piece plays with the jobs data.  After reading it,  I have no idea how many people are unemployed in the United States.  Do you?

  1. No I dont. But the looks from the graph it shows frequent highs and lows for unemployment, however in the long term it is very cyclical and the troughs are always triggered by recessionary periods

  2. No I do not know, but what we can see beyond these stats is that the economy is on the rise because for the first time since october of 2009 Dow is above 14,000 points in the stock market. Which hopefully means that the job market is starting to grow again.

  3. No I don't. From the graph, I could see a significant low employment rate from 2008 to 2010. However, the employment rate shows an increase from 2010 so that maybe a good sign about the recovery in job market.
