Sony's PS4 is Finally Out!

Check out this article from Bloomberg News that highlights Sony's announcement to release the PlayStation 4.  It has been seven years since Sony's last video-game console and this new release is being made in hoping to increase sales and gain shareholder confidence.  According to the article this new console could be the game changer in the gaming industry with new social gaming features making sharing games as easy as clicking a button. What do you think about Sony's big move?   For those gamers out there, are you interested in buying a PS4?

  1. I think this is definitely a step in the right direction for Sony... considering we haven't heard much from them in the past few years. I think the only issue would be that people might hesitant to buy this new product when they are already comfortable with their already owned gaming system. “Game-wise, it was an absolute home run,” said Michael Pachter, an analyst at Wedbush Securities in Los Angeles. But later in the article it talks about this PS4 will unlikely boost Sony's sales and profit in the long run, mostly because core gamers will be the only ones interested in this product, and gamers who are already part of the PS3 family. I don't think it will hurt to try it... maybe it will be a huge success... but in a business like this you have to be willing to take the chances!

  2. I personally have always been a fan of Microsoft's Xbox 360 myself. I have never really purchased any playstation like products and I don't really plan on it now. But, that being said, I think this is a great move for Sony. It seems like the three video game giants (Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft) have been lying dormant for years now and Sony is the first to wake up. The fact sony is the first corporation to announce a new gaming platform will be a big advantage for them. So I think this is a very smart move on Sony's part. I personally am excited because I am hoping this move will get Microsoft to start developing the new Xbox, a product I do plan on buying.

  3. I have been planning on getting PS3 but it seems like a PS4 may be better because of the whole social gaming feature. I was a fan of Xbox until it became rather pricey to play online - as a rational consumer i figured; why not PS and network for free. Good move Sony, though i would have preferred seeing the device!!!

  4. Like clay, I too have always been an Xbox owner and although i like the playstation console, i have never owned one and i dont think that will change. Although, I think this is a great move for Sony. Much like the iphone 5, people want what is new. The iphone5 is not that much different than the Iphone4 but because its new and current, people stil buy it along with the amenities that you need to purchase along with the product. The PS4 will be no different. This will increase profit greatly and now its XBox's turn to answer. I predict XBox will come out with a new console (Maybe Xbox 720) within the next year.

  5. People will certainly buy it the day it comes out. It will surely help out Sony in terms of profit and shareholder confidence. The gaming industry as a whole has dipped the last few years, but this is also the biggest gap in console release we've ever seen. Next generation consoles are long overdue. I think that Sony and Microsoft need to release new systems every 5 years or so to keep people buying them. Once you hit that 7-8 year mark that we're at right now, everybody already has one and you won't make any more money.

  6. I am an also an x-box owner/fan. While I do agree that Sony may be the first to release a totally new product in a while, X-box has been innovating its current console over the years until it had a new one to release, which is supposed to be the x-box 720 in the fall. I think that by being the first to announce their new product, Sony has an advantage but the truly brilliant games are being made for the X-box because the customer base is bigger, and I do not think the PS4 will be enticing enough to make the switch.

  7. Have to step out of the norm in order to make a profit. Like has been said, the gaming community has become comfortable with the console set ups they have now. But as we know, once too many firms enter a market, profits stall out. Sony is one step ahead of its competitors with this move as Nintendo continues to upgrade its already existing platforms and Microsoft keeps dragging its feet on its' next Gen console.

  8. I'm going to purchase the PS4. I don't know when I will purchase it, but I will eventually get it. I've been loyal to sony since the PS1 came out back in the late 1990's. As for the announcement of the PS4, I was disappointed in the fact that they didn't even share the counsel design. Now that Sony has made this announcement, look for Microsoft to come out with some sort of plan in the near future for anticipated Xbox 720?

  9. As a semi-gamer, I do not think I will purchase the new PS4 unless it is the most amazing thing in the world. However I prefer the Xbox to Sony's game consoles, so I will most likely wait until Microsoft comes up with something to top the PS4. That being said, I still anticipate that Sony will see a large profit from the new console and that they will be able to create a large "buzz" with their new products.

  10. I am excited to see how Xbox responds to this announcement. I have read articles about Microsoft in the past that said that they would not bring out a new xbox for some time. However, with the new Sony console coming out, I don't think Microsoft has any choice but to bring out a new system if it wants to keep its edge on the market. I will note, that if the PS4 does not live up to all the hype Sony will suffer greatly.
