Obama thinkin' on innovation

Here is an article about Obama's 2$ billion plan to spend on researching cleaner fuels.
This article also talks about the sequester and how the impact will cause
“the nation  to feel the loss of important new scientific ideas that now will not be explored, and of brilliant young scientists who now will take their talents overseas or perhaps even abandon research entirely.”

Just thought I'd put it in here... interesting article!

  1. I am encouraged to see that the administration is putting some money towards research and science. I am worried that while it looks like a lot, it still won't compensate for the money that will be lost in research. I do not have data to back that up though, it is just a concern. I personally think that innovation should be a number one priority, especially since we are not spending as much for defense any more. Innovation will keep our products cutting edge and competitive in the global sphere.

  2. The fact that Obama at least has a plan for paying for this research through certain tax's is a better step than having the federal reserve print money to fund the research. I do think that if we, as a country, can crack the renewable energy market then we will have the next big innovation jobs here in our country. It would not only be great in the sense of resources but also is great for the job economy.

  3. I think this is awesome and a good place to put money. We have discussed innovation so much in class and seem to agree that innovation is an outstanding foundation in America. From the sequester mention in the article... I am really sick of it, I want to get rid of the sequester!

  4. It's always good to hear that money is going to be spent on research and development. And I completely agree with Rohitha, renewable energy can be the next big innovation and a potential job market. In 2011, when every sector in Michigan was cutting the number of workers, clean energy was the only area which created jobs.

  5. I think that President Obama made a fantastic choice here. The oil companies are not going to miss $2 billion dollars that much but the up and coming energy companies will benefit greatly from this money. As an investor I think investing in alternative energies would be a smart choice for the fact that some of these companies will blow up in the future and be major energy providers. I think within the near future the government will allocate more funds to this industry and it will cause major growth.
