New Detroit Manager Is Optimistic on Turnaround

For those who care about Detroit and the Metro-Detroit area, this article talks about the new emergency financial manager of Detroit, Kevyn Orr, who was appointed earlier today by Governor Rick Snyder. Detroit has a lot of debt, is this move a little too late? Thoughts on the article?

  1. Either way I think we needed someone to step in and manage our finances because only a specialist is going to be able to help us at this point. Kevyn Orr is is going to make some drastic changes either way so I say whatever moves are made we have to follow through. We cannot afford to start one policy and then change to another policy because we did not like how the first policy was working. That would be very bad for the Detroit area.

  2. I agree with Rohitha. I think one of the more important parts of this change is the need for support for it. If people, politicians and companies are on board these changes can help. Whether or not they are the changes certain people are looking for, they are changes. Detroit needs something so I hope people can put their opinions aside and simply support Detroit. We will just have to see what happens. I am interested to hear what Professor McKinney thinks about this since she is very experienced in Urban economics.

  3. The move can work, I just hope we have the right man for the job. One of Detroit's biggest problems has been favoritism and contracts awarded to people and companies not deserving of them over the years. As long as nothing comes out like that and this man is qualified to get the job done, we should see some improvement. Hard to think it can get any worse...

  4. I agree with Travis. It all depends on if we have the right guy for the job. Also, it cant get much worse so I can only see it getting better. I think this is a little too late but better late than never.
