Is there a way out?

We talked about the sequester a lot this past week. This article talks about how president Obama and house speaker Boehner did not have any progress of working a deal through to negate the sequester. After reading this article, do you believe that our government is capable of having a bipartisan agreement on the sequester?  Does this make you lose any faith or confidence in our congress to work through issues like the sequester? How does this lack of progress make you feel?

  1. I don't believe that the two parties will be able to come to an agreement very easily. Both sides want to make the other look bad instead of striving to make a deal to help the country. I wouldn't say this has caused me to lose any faith in our government because I have thought that the parties don't work well together for a while now. I think before we make any headway on the sequester we must make headway on ways to get the two parties to come to terms. I hope that the two sides can strike a deal soon so that when I graduate college I will not be greatly affected by these cuts and tax increases.

  2. I completely agree with Carter. Something needs to be done about the way our Congress works and interacts soon or we will run our country into the ground. It seems like an exaggerated statement but with time it could happen and it is scary. Maybe something as big as the sequester not working out could spark something but we will see.

  3. For the two parties to agree on this is probably not going to happen any time soon. It makes me sad to think that this is more about proving the other party's idea wrong than doing what's best for America. It's going to require each party to give a little in order to compromise, and I just don't see that happening.

  4. I agree with Carter. I find it hard to believe that the two parties will come to an agreement in the near future. Both parties want whats best for their side and not whats best for the country and neither are willing to give in. Like Carter, this does not make me lose any faith in the government because it has been like this for a long time. This does discourage me though, in that, in future endeavors like the sequester, we will not be able to come to a compromise and things like this will happen and will negatively affect our economy.
