Facebook reveals your secrets...

I found this article in Financial times and found it kind of interesting... especially since I know there are people who are applying for jobs and internships, you might want to take a look at what businesses might start doing with your Facebook, and how your personal information might affect you in your future interviews.

  1. This is a great article to keep in mind. It seems as though can never really be too careful when it comes to sharing personal information online. I believe employers will continue to use online information more and more when looking at potential employees, and one should monitor not only the information they put online, but all information about them. It might be a good idea to google your name every so often just to make sure there is no inaccurate information about you somewhere on the web.

  2. I found this article very interesting as well. I think that employers are finding more and more ways to find any information they can on their potential employees. Facebook and other social networking sites are great for employees to find dirt on potentail employees and many people out their do not realize that the things on their profile could be detrimental to thei future. Personally, i never put anything on the internet i wouldnt want an employer to see and i suggest others do the same.

  3. This is a very realistic thing to think about in this relatively new technology world. People will try and find any thing they can about you and they do it in very sneaky ways. Honestly Facebook should not be the only place where we are careful with information. Other online sites can access your information very easily only through your email address, so when it comes to safety on the internet, I believe people should be more cautious than excited.

  4. Our society is getting too used to putting everything out there that they forget about who all can see it and how it may affect them. I don't think we are ready to have a completely translucent society so people should be a little more careful or Facebook (and other sites) need to find out a way to prevent this from happening. If this starts to hurt people, they will leave or they will find a safer site and these other companies will lose business.

  5. This study is very interesting but the researchers pointed out some inconsistencies in the study which shows that we should not be concerned much about what these researches come up with, at least for now. I admit they are coming closer and closer to revealing user secrets.

  6. We can't expect 100% privacy if we are linked with any social networking sites and I agree with Rohitha, people should me more cautious than excited. I won't mind my future employer accessing my private information but it means there are ways to access my information by any another people who have appropriate skills.

  7. What! People are using my facebook to data mine information on me!? This is super interesting and very informative. As previous posts mentioned, people need to be more careful about what they have on the web. Remember people, if its on the internet its public information! In the long run, I can see businesses use this information to tailor their marketing efforts. Though it seems a little invasive of our privacy, this technology could really advance how businesses choose to advertise their products and services.

  8. This is crazy, but I can also understand why companies would do this. They have a right to search the internet about a possible employee because they need to know if this person looks like a reliable person. Besides facebook, people need to be careful with their twitter and tumblr accounts as well. These are so easy to access information from online and people definitely need to be more careful.
