“The full faith and credit of the United States of America is not a bargaining chip.”
“They will not collect a ransom in exchange for not crashing the American economy,” Mr. Obama said during his final news conference of his first term in office.
Should the Republicans continue to press this issue or should they just let it go? If raising the national debt ceiling is going to put the United States in another recession, then why even have this conversation right now? I have a feeling Obama and the Republicans in congress are going to be at each others throats all year.

ReplyDeleteSome humor always helps...
I do agree with Mr Obama on this issue. There needs to be a reduction in government spending. I think we have done enough to take the big firms out of the recession from our stimulus packages. Now it is time to develop our start up companies which can actually help the economy.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Geschenk that a reduction in government spending is necessary but where is he going to make the cuts. Its not an easy decision to decide which areas one would like to cut the spending because there are certain problem associated in every area. Cutting spending on one area is always going to upset the people associated with it.
ReplyDeleteI don't like the fact that when Obama was the senator, he voted against raising the debt ceiling and now he is doing the same thing which he voted against for.
I agree with Geschenk that government spending must be reduced. I also understand that Obama wants to raise the debt ceiling, and I agree with him, but at what point do we say enough is enough? If we keep raising the debt ceiling higher and higher, when will we actually pay off the debt?
